- How long will my appointment take? Appointments for new pointe shoe dancers can take up to 2 hours to complete. Appointments for experienced dancers usually take less time, unless the dancer is requiring a completely new type of shoe. Dancers who know what shoe they need, and is simply getting a new pair of the shoe she is currently in, do not need to make an appointment. Simply call or email us to check inventory.
- What will my new shoes, and supplies cost? Shoes range from $68 to $90. Additional items the dancer will need: Ribbons and elastic and toe pads - about $30. Other items she may need or want to have: lambs wool, sewing kit, mesh bag, toe tape, rosin and mole skin. It's important to have the correct supplies when dancing en pointe. Some of these supplies will improve the comfort of the dancer's feet while dancing. Total cost can be up to $150.
- What do I wear for my appointment? Clean convertible tights, with dance shorts or leotard. The dancer must be able to move her legs comfortably and freely. It's helpful to also have her hair up.
- How long will my new shoes last? Pointe shoes are not designed to last forever! You will need to purchase new shoes on a regular basis. The life of the shoe is dependent on how they are cared for, how many hours per week they are danced in, and how hard the dancer is on the shoes. Example: If a dancer has a pair of shoes, dancing 1 hour per week in them, they may last 6 to 9 months. If the dancer, increases her dance classes to 2 hours a week, the life of the shoe has just been cut in half. If she adds another hour per week, the life is again decreased. So this pair of shoes that originally lasted 6 to 9 months, now only last about 2 to 3 months. It is VERY IMPORTANT that the dancer be very aware of the life of her shoes. When they "start to die", get your new pair immediately. You don't want to have them completely die, and not have anything to dance in. OUR RECOMMENDATION: When a dancer dances more than 2 hours per week, we suggest she have two pair of the same shoes and alternate them between dance classes. It's important to keep the shoes DRY. The initial investment is greater, but the shoes will last longer and if one pair suddenly dies, she has a backup already broken in! Important when she's has an important performance coming up!
- What appointment times are available? Please call or email us for your appointment. Debby prefers to schedule appointment's when she has help in the shop or, before or after normal store hours - evenings and Sunday's work the best!
